The Developmental Neuropsychiatry Scholar Award

Whitaker Scholars Award Group at Columbia University Medical Center

The mission of the Developmental Neuropsychiatry Scholar Award is to improve mental health care for persons with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders by providing advanced training in this area to child psychiatrists, other health care providers, and scientists.  The Scholar Award is awarded within the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and is located at the Columbia University Medical Center at New York State Psychiatric Institute. It is co-directed by Drs. Agnes Whitaker and Jeremy Veenstra-VanderWeele. J. Blake Turner, Ph.D., is a key collaborator on several projects with the group. 

The Scholar position provides an individualized, mentored experience in clinical practice, research, and public policy. The position takes advantage of the varied, exceptional faculty and resources available at this multi-site medical center; and is highly individualized for each scholar, depending on their interests and goals.The Scholar position, first funded by a generous gift from Marilyn and James Simons in December 2011, is concluding its sixth year in 2017.
